With the coronavirus pandemic suddenly causing communities to quickly run out of supplies, Crowley Logistics has come to the rescue.

Crowley Logistics, based in Jacksonville, Florida, is a privately held family- and employee-owned company that provides marine solutions, energy, and logistics services in domestic and international markets. It is part of Crowley Maritime Corporation, which has been operating for 128 years. They maintain a fleet of 200 vessels, consisting of RO/RO (roll-on-roll-off) vessels, LO/LO (lift-on-lift-off) vessels, articulated tug-barges (ATBs), tugs and barges. Their land-based facilities and equipment also include terminals, warehouses, tank farms, office buildings, trucks, trailers, containers, chassis, cranes, and other specialized vehicles.

Crowley Logistics has helped deliver fresh food for people in need in New York City. NYC was one of the hardest-hit cities with the coronavirus pandemic over the last couple of months. Also, Crowley has been able to supply military personnel or civilians with ready to eat meals and medical supplies such as masks, gowns, and face shields, around the country, according to Patrick Wallace, Crowley's Vice President for Government Supply Chain. The shipments also included breathing apparatuses, batteries, and hand sanitizers.

The fresh produce included pineapples, papayas, green plantains, and the food will be distributed to senior citizens, low-income families, and at community centers that serve vulnerable populations in the city. First-responders were also included to receive fresh produce from this shipment donation. Minority communities, including Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities, were some of the communities greatly impacted by the pandemic. "Crowley has always striven to help people in the communities in which we live, work and serve, and this partnership continues the longstanding commitment by the company and our employees,” said Sal Menoyo, Crowley Logistics vice president for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Even with the majority of their employees working from home due to the pandemic, that has not stopped them from delivering essential supplies.

Crowley Logistics' employees are helping other communities one shipping container at a time and I am proud to know that this supply chain division based in my hometown (Duuuvallll!!! Go Jags!) is able to help those in need during this pandemic. Jacksonville only has under 2,000 cases, compared to New York City that has over 200,000. I am so glad that Crowley was able to embrace the communities in New York with solidarity in this crisis. Crowley worked alongside Baldor Specialty Foods and City Harvest to donate the food.
